"She did not look anything like a horned horse, as unicorns are often pictured, being smaller and cloven-hoofed, and possessing that oldest, wildest grace that horses have never had, that deer have only in a shy, thin imitation and goats in dancing mockery.

Her neck was long and slender, making her head seem smaller than it was, and the mane that fell almost to the middle of her back was as soft as dandelion fluff and as fine as cirrus. She had pointed ears and thin legs, with feathers of white hair at the ankles; and the long horn above her eyes shone and shivered with its own seashell light even in the deepest midnight. She had killed dragons with it, and healed a king whose poisoned wound would not close, and knocked down ripe chestnuts for bear cubs..."

("The Last Unicorn", by Peter S. Beagle)

Yeah, I'm officially in love with this story.
I saw it a couple of days ago (before Ridley Scott's "Legend" LOL "Unicorn Day"), and it's lovely, sad and beautiful.
'Amalthea' is such a great character for a unicorn! :XD:
AND JEEZ, SHE'S SO DAMN PRETTY! So graceful and so charming! Being an equine lover as I am, I just couldn't help making a fanart of her.

The intro was beautiful, with that imitation of medieval tapestries I cryied so hard! :XD:
lt's as emotional as the intro of Disney's "The Rescuers".

And as a matter of fact, though "The Last Unicorn" is a very famous book/movie, here in Brazil it's not well known. We don't even have a Brazilian edition of the book here, for crying out loud. :iconwthplz:

Oh, and I really don't like her as a human girl, 'Amalthea' though she's very pretty - she completely lost herself in that form, and she was a bit emo too. I don't know. :XD:

Anyway, enjoy! :XD:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Ela em nada se assemelhava a um cavalo que possui um unico chifre, como os unicórnios são geralmente retratados. Na realidade, era menor, com cascos bifurcados, e detinha aquela graça ancestral e selvagem que os cavalos jamais tiveram, da qual os cervos possuem apenas uma frágil sombra e que as cabras tentam imitar em danças zombeteiras.
Seu pescoço era maior e mais delgado, que fazia sua cabeça parecer menor do que era na verdade; a crina, que crescia até quase a metade das costas, era suave como as sementes de um dente-de-leão e tão fina quanto nuvens
cirrus. As orelhas eram pontudas e as pernas esguias, com feixes de pelo branco nos tornozelos; o longo chifre posicionado acima de seus olhos possuia luz propria, que brilhava e tremeluzia mesmo na noite mais densa. Já abatera dragões com ele, curou um rei cuja ferida envenenada recusava-se a cicatrizar por si só e também derrubou castanhas maduras para filhotes de urso..."
("O Último Unicórnio", de Peter S. Beagle)
Bem, é isso. Estou oficialmente 'in love' por essa história.
The Last Unicorn, "O Ultimo Unicórnio", é um livro que se transformou em animação nos anos 80, altamente desconhecido aqui na "Ilha de Vera Cruz" e que descobri ser um clássico-extreme aqui pelo dA. 8D
Enfim, sempre tive vontade de assistir, pelo que via nos fanarts por aqui devia ser bem bonito e talz... e é! *__*
Assisti na sexta-feira 13 (antes de "A Lenda" de Ridley Scott 8D "Unicorn Day") e achei muito bonito e triste em algumas partes. A 'Amalthea' é uma personagem e tanto para um unicornio! :XD:
E ELA É TÃO FREAKIN' LINDA! Tão graciosa e elegante! Eu, que NEM gosto de cavalos /sarcasmo, não pude evitar um fanart dela!
"The Last Unicorn" tem uma introdução linda e emocionante tipo a abertura de Bernardo e Bianca, mas com o adendo fantástico de imitar uma série de sete de tapeçarias medievais, chamada The Hunt of the Unicorn ou "A Caça ao Unicórnio"
O unicórnio em questão também tem uma forma humana no filme, 'Amalthea', uma garota bem bonita e talz, mas eu não gosto dela nessa forma D:
Ela fica muito perdida e meio emo também. Sei lá. :XD:
Anyway, enjoy! :XD:
Yeh it is mentioned, also in the movie. Why didn't you look up the original movie? That would be a good reference. :)
Saddly I only saw this movie in 2010, mostly because it's not a well-known book / movie here in Brazil, but I always try to see stuff like this with the eyes and imagination of a child - it's a way to keep our inner child alive and that's always a good thing in my opinion =D
Even though I was 20 years old when I saw it, I utterly adored it! :love:
This is a beautiful rendition of a unicorn. For once, I think this style is beautiful rather than diminishing (I often prefer horses with horns) and now you have me rethinking everything I ever thought about how unicorns should look. This is simply stunning.
I know it's in Brazillian Portuguese, because I've picked up copies and read part of it at some major used bookstores here in the US. I learned the language from a native lady who also spoke French. I taught her better English. Listening to her and her son at home taught me Portuguese :) I'll do some looking around. The last edition I saw was probably 1990 vintage, paperback, from a press in Rio someplace. I wish I'd spent the extra $2.50 American and picked it up. If I find it again, I just pick it up and then we can figure out a way to send it to you.
Huum, I see... Probably they are very old, they don't sell them anymore. Maybe I can find a copy in one of those old books store ("Sebo"). I might try to look after it sometime =D
